Overview
These solo-authored works develop concise, interpretable approaches to understanding transportation data, mobility patterns, traffic operations, and future road systems:
- Jam-absorption driving can suppress stop-and-go waves, but most strategies remain difficult to deploy because they lack practical implementation vehicles and operating rules. Inspired by police-car swerving, this study formulated a single-vehicle, two-detector strategy and demonstrated that it can eliminate an isolated wave without creating a secondary disturbance[1].
- Widely used time–space traffic diagrams are often too coarse to reveal detailed traffic dynamics. A simple multiple linear regression refinement model increased diagram resolution by factors of four and sixteen, outperforming adaptive smoothing while transferring reliably across times, locations, and countries[2].
- Ride-hailing research has been constrained by limited access to detailed operational data. Using multi-day Beijing trip orders, this study portrayed regional demand rhythms and driver service preferences, revealing distinct driver types and informing demand prediction, behavior modeling, and platform management[3].
- Travel demand across integrated urban regions may retain stable structural regularities at different spatial and temporal resolutions. Spatial–temporal networks constructed from Taiwan taxi data exhibited persistent power-law distributions, demonstrating a spatial–temporal fractal property of urban-agglomeration demand[4].
- Connected and automated vehicles create opportunities to coordinate movements at intersections and ramps beyond conventional lane-based control. This chapter reviewed prevailing cooperative-driving strategies and proposed a lane change-free road transportation system in which vehicles can reach any destination without on-road lane changes[5].
- NGSIM datasets have shaped traffic-flow research, yet their uses and limitations were dispersed across many studies. This review classified leading Transportation Research papers into six subjects and five data uses, then identified dataset limitations and priorities for future high-fidelity trajectory collection[6].
